Resident Evil 4

Resident Evil 4 may in fact be the best game ever. And by that, I actually mean my favourite game ever. Adam and I had a long and varied game session last night which started with The Super Nintendo era: Street Fighter II and Contra III: The Alien Wars (which is excellent and challenging on the harder difficulty settings).

We then played WarioWare Smooth Moves for Wii (a game which I will be getting my own copy of in a few weeks) and Wii Sports. Contrary to a few reviewers out there, Wii Sports is a very in-depth game and offers a lot of variety in gameplay. I would go so far as to say it’s my favourite Wii title so far. Granted, I’ve only played about 11 Wii games, but still.

Naruto: Clash of the Ninja 2 was next up and I have to say, I’m not that great at this game but it’s still a lot of fun. I love its look and its simple control scheme really goes well with it.

The night ended with an intense turn-taking session of Resident Evil 4. I can’t believe I didn’t immediately LOVE this game the first time I played it - but granted, I was not as good at it back then. Now, 2.5 years later, it’s still as fun, fresh, and terrifying as it was when it was first released. I’m looking forward to the next Resident Evil title. Capcom has some excellent games under its belt.

There are hundreds of game companies that can learn a thing or two from Capcom. The company doesn’t have a perfect track record (think later Mega Man titles, the last Viewtiful Joe) but their gems shine bright enough that their mediocre titles can be forgiven. At least they’re not re-using the Prince of Persia engine for every game they make, nor are they releasing a shitload of Wii games that are crappy ports of older games with motion controls tacked on as an afterthought.

I know it sounds lame, but Capcom did an AMAZING job with their GameBoy (original black and white) version of Duck Tales. It was really hard with that original hardware to make games that both looked great and moved fast/accurately. It seemed that one was always sacrificed to achieve the other. I even still play that game sometimes… and find it superior to the original NES version.

If you haven’t tried it, try it today! It’s a great little sidescrolling platformer, and in the spirit of Super Mario and Metroid, it has a lot of hidden passageways and items to find. Also, the set of rules you play by are very consistent with a good feel for “edges” when you collide with them.

I recommend trying to play the whole thing while pogoing rather than walking… (it’s like playing Super Mario only with superspeed :P)

I totally agree. I have played the original NES and GameBoy versions of Duck Tales (I actually borrowed Duck Tales from a friend back in grade 7 and played the hell out of it).

I forgot that was Capcom as well :)

Duck Tales was also a fun cartoon, yo.

If you like Naruto: Clash of Ninja 2, you’d LOVE Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen! 4…

    Seriously.
    :)

I just unlocked all 3 Sannin, and their group special is INSANITY!
